Following the Meteorological Warning 034/2026, issued by the Portuguese Institute of the Ocean and Atmosphere, in the orange color category, for the period between 05:00 pm on 18/03/2026 and 05:00 pm on 19/03/2026, it is informed that access to Pico Mountain is closed for security reasons until 05:00 pm on 19/03/2026, in accordance with what is established in paragraph 1 of article 11 of the Regulation on access to the Pico Mountain Natural Reserve, in the Autonomous Region of the Azores, approved in Annex to Ordinance no. 25/2020, of March 11, amended and republished by Ordinance no. 64/2023, of July 27.
We also inform that, under the terms of paragraph 4 of article 11 of the Regulation for access to the Pico Mountain Nature Reserve, in the case of a yellow weather warning issued by the Portuguese Institute of the Ocean and Atmosphere, access to Pico Mountain is not recommended, therefore, between 05:00 pm on 17/03/2026 and 05:00 pm on 18/03/2026 and between 05:00 am on 19/03/2026 and 10:00 am on 20/03/2026, the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Action, for safety reasons, does not recommend access to Pico Mountain. The Mountain House will be closed on 18th and 19th march.
